Clive Allen insists the focus is all about getting back to winning ways against
Blackburn at the Lane on Sunday.
Development coach Clive has stepped into a
caretaker manager’s role following the departure of Martin Jol and Chris
Hughton. He will be assisted by our Under-18 coach Alex Inglethorpe. Rovers will
provide a tough examination but Clive’s thoughts are solely on how we perform.
“The only way things can improve is the team getting results, that’s how it
works in football,” said Clive at Spurs Lodge this afternoon. “I spoke to the
players briefly after the game (against Getafe) and said exactly that. They know
the situation, they are disappointed with their form in the last couple of weeks
in-particular and they are capable of a lot more. “They want to show that, they
are determined to do that and I’ll be pushing them to try and turn around the
results.” Rovers stand sixth in the Barclays Premier League with just one defeat
in nine games. They are unbeaten in four away matches. “They are very
consistent,” added Clive. “Mark Hughes has instilled discipline in their
approach and the way they go about matches. “They have real quality, dangerous
players that we will look at but it’s about us, about the character we show and
the performance we need. “It’s a difficult game in the circumstances but we need
to get back to producing what we’re capable of. “Blackburn will know all about
the situation we find ourselves in but it’s about what the lads do when they
cross the white line on Sunday and I’ve no fears in that respect. I know what
they are capable of and I’m looking for us to produce a performance.” As for
Clive’s own position, he added: “It’s a very difficult situation but I’m keen
and passionate to do the best job I can in difficult circumstances with Martin
and Chris leaving.”
