Radek Cerny emphasised that there is still plenty to play for this term, despite
the team suffering a setback on Monday evening with defeat at Newcastle
United.
The Czech shot stopper, who was making his first league appearance in
our colours for over two years in place of the injured Paul Robinson, admits
points are paramount at present having picked up just one league win this term.
However, with only ten league games gone Radek is confident that it is only a
matter of time before results turn in our favour, starting against Getafe in our
opening UEFA Cup group match on Thursday. “It is difficult because we have won
just one league game against Derby County," he said. "We need points
because our supporters and everyone associated with the Club expect more.
“Before the season started many people were saying we should be in the top four
but instead we are near the bottom. “It is a tough time for the supporters as
well but we hope we can win our next game against Getafe on Thursday and then
pick up points in our next league game to move up the table. “We have a young
team but it is a strong side with good players. We can still push for the
European places, we proved what we can do against Liverpool and if we can
reproduce that display it could get us going.”
