Jenas: Jol support
Jermaine Jenas has voiced his support for beleaguered
Tottenham manager Martin Jol.
Despite a stirring fight-back from 4-1 down
against Aston Villa on Monday, speculation about Jol's future has still not gone
away.
Jenas insists the Dutchman is the man to turn around Tottenham's
fortunes after successfully guiding the club to fifth place for the last two
seasons.
"The manager has got us to where we are today," the midfielder told
Sky Sports News.
"We have had two top-five finishes and we went quite far in
the cups last year.
"We want to build on that. We know we are underachieving
in the league at the minute but everyone's fully supporting him.
"We were in
a similar situation last year and once the games started coming thick and fast
with Europe and the cup competitions we started to keep those clean sheets and
get a few wins."
Pressure
Jenas has dismissed the argument that the
pressure on Jol is affecting the players.
He explained: "I don't think it's
a matter of pressure. We're trained to deal with these situations and a lot of
us have been in these situations before.
"You just have to go back to your
experience and I'm sure we'll come through it."
Tottenham have had few
problems in attack but have conceded 16 goals so far in the Premier League.
Jenas does not believe the blame lies solely with the defence and has urged
all of his team-mates to raise their game.
"It's not the defence, it's the
team," he said.
"As good as you can be going forward and scoring goals, you
have to be just as good at keeping clean sheets.
"That's a team thing and it
starts from the centre-forwards, through the midfield and the whole of the
defence."
