Chris Hughton gives us the rundown on Aston Villa ahead of tonight's 125
anniversary game at the Lane.
VILLA represents a tough fixture for our 125
anniversary match. I watched them beat Chelsea and although Chelsea put them
under a lot of pressure, as you would expect, Villa defended well when they
needed to. What Villa have at the moment is an abundance of pace in the forward
areas with Gabriel Agbonlahor and Ashley Young both impressing. They’ve brought
in young English players in Young, Nigel Reo-Coker, Curtis Davies and Zat Knight
and already had Agbonlahor and Luke Moore at the club. Wilfred Bouma, who has
been in and out of the side, is back in and playing regularly and that’s the
same with Martin Laursen, who was out for a while but is playing well. Olof
Mellberg has been there a while and can play centre-back or right-back. The
exciting players are Young, Agbonlahor and Gareth Barry, who played particularly
well for England last time out. John Carew was injured against Everton so that
might bring Marlon Harewood into the frame. Whatever system they play I’m sure
they’ll come to White Hart Lane determined to get a result but we are always
confident in our home form. It’s a special day for the club and let’s hope we
make it all the more special with a win.
